All I know about Rock & Roll, I learned from Tony Sheridan,.. George Harrison once said!

Born in Norwich England TONY SHERIDAN brought Rock & Roll to Europe. Tony established at a young age of 18 his identity as a singer/guitarist in the British TV show "Oh Boy". As Europe’s most celebrated Rock & Roll performer, Tony had various "backup bands" that performed with him on stage in Germany. One of those bands were the "Beat Brothers" Later known as the THE BEATLES. The first recordings ever made by The Beatles were with Tony Sheridan. These first renditions, which appeared in their first album titled: TONY SHERIDAN and The Beatles, are now rare collectibles. The CD listed here is one of many available and I must say it is GREAT. I highly recommend this cd to go into you're cd collection!!! Click here to go to Tony's website.
Three great songs on this Cd are:

  • Let's Dance
  • Ya, Ya
  • Ruby Baby
  • (I believe this is the best version I have from this great song)

The Traveling Wilburys, consist of,: George Harrison [The Beatles], Tom Petty [Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers], Roy Orbinson, Bob dylan and Jeff Lynne [Electric Light Orchestra [E.L.O.]] came together coincidental as follows.
George was recording a B-Side for one of his Cloud Nine singles. Jeff was producing it. He was also producing Roy's latest album and while the three of them had lunch, Roy volunteered to sing on George's song. The only available recording studio they could find that was Bob's. George's guitar was round Tom's house. When they went to pick it up, Tom tagged along. George recorded the song 'Handle With Care', asking the others for various contributions. When the record company heard the track they realised that it was too good to be hidden away as a B-Side. Having enjoyed the recording of this track so much, everyone agreed to record a whole album.
This album became Traveling Wilburys Vol. 1 (1988) which is NOT the one pictured here. THIS IS A BOOTLEG which is nice, but certainly not great. Reason for this is the poor quality of the live recordings made in "Palomino" Hollywood.

Two great songs on this Cd are:

  • Heartbreak Radio
  • You Got It

'Lawday Miss Clawdy' is Cliff's first ever recording (recorded at HMV, Oxford Street). On the basis of this track he was signed to EMI Records and the rest is history. His first song 'Move It' jumped right away to Nr 2 in the English Charts. Influenced by Elvis "in the beginning of his career" (In 1964 he bacame a Christian) he sold over 260 Million records. I own one of them and you're looking at it :-) A best of his R&R hits in his 50's period it is!, and it contains real (good quality) R&R songs. My all time Cliff favourites are

  • Move it

  • 9 Times out of ten

  • High Classs Baby

Again an influential figure in the history of Rock & Roll,..! still absolutely for nowadays rockers. Ask the singer of "The Explosion Rockets" if you don't believe me! :-) Songs like Weekend, Summertime Blues, My way we saw Shaky perform in the Oh Boy / Let's Rock TV shows. I really like Shaky's version of "Never" and Eddie's version of the same song on this CD is a good "second place" version! (haha) Besides listening to his highly advanced guitar playing on this cd you can also listen to some GREAT Rock 'N' Roll songs from the fifties which he wrote himself like:

  • Summertime Blues
  • C'Mon Everybody
  • Three Steps To Heaven
  • Somethin' Else

  • My Way
  • Nervous Breakdown
  • Teenage Heaven
