To complete the 'COME ON
MEMPHIS' lp (Dynamite no. 3306) we held a session in Pathway studio and cut five more
tracks in addition to the ones we already
recorded in Holland. We did 'Jungle Rock' , 'Justine' (included here), 'The Story Of The
Rockers' , 'Reet petite' and 'Oakie Boogie' The recordings were great fun and we practically
put everything down on tape in one shot; a lively sound. And we hope some of the excitement
we enjoyed while doing it, rubs Off on you through this very record! The career of Shakin'
Stevens so far uniquely spans the entire last decade. This however , apart from a loyal
following, left him virtually unkown and most certainly highly underestimated. From this
very first adventure in the record business in 1970 (the highly acclaimed lp
'A LEGEND',
produced by Dave Edmunds) it runs all the way through his sessions for the Pink elephant
label (two lp's), the Dynamite recordings (resulting in what is regarded as probably his best
lp 'COME ON MEMPHIS') followed by a solo career and signed to Track (now that this contract
is sold he records for the epic label, taking him back to CBS for whom he already cut
'I'm No Juvenile Delinquent') in 1971 and his highly appraised performances in the West End
Elvis-play (also available on record) Shaky has always delivered the goods: high-class
rock 'n roll. Both as a performer, who has mastered the vocal style of the great rock'n
roll singers from the 1950's as well as an innovator (listen to his album on
track).
He definitely deserves a broader exposure and a far larger audience the he has gotten so far.
Being a regular feature on the recently rescheduled Jack Good rock'n roll shows, which are
broadcasted nation-wide on British television nearly every week, Shakin' Stevens will
eventually become a star of the first magnitude. Those lucky ones who witnessed one of his
many live shows backed by The Sunsets know what we mean by proclaiming him as,
'THE BEST ROCK 'N ROLL SINGER ALIVE'!!!
